Our Family’s Fork in the Road: Why We’re Trying a Plant-Based Life

It all started with a why not.

As two adults navigating busy work schedules, parenting two energetic kids, and managing our own health (yes, both my husband and I are diabetic), we found ourselves wondering if we could do better—not perfect, just better. Better meals, better energy, better habits. So we did what most tired-but-determined parents do: we decided to shake things up… and try a plant-based diet.

Now, let me be clear—we’re not chasing perfection. We’re not here to preach kale chips or pretend tofu is always a hit. We’re just two people who want to eat more mindfully, take care of our bodies, and maybe even model something good for our kids along the way.

And here’s the twist: they wanted in.

Our kids—7 and 8 years old—are curious, opinionated, and, like most children, slightly suspicious of anything green. But once they saw us experimenting in the kitchen, trying new things, and actually having fun with food (not just rushing through it), they slowly joined the adventure.

Pearl, our 7-year-old and my little kitchen shadow, became especially involved. From stirring sauces to giving brutally honest feedback (“This tastes like grass.”), she turned into a real part of this journey. She’s the tiny food critic we never knew we needed.

This blog is our space to document the wins, the fails, the almost-edible dinners, and the moments that surprised us. It’s about cooking with kids, trying new things as a family, and letting go of the idea that healthy has to mean boring or restrictive.

So whether you’re plant-curious, deep into vegan life, or just here for the laughs and kid reactions—we’re happy to have you here at the table.

Let the taste tests and transition begin!
